Who they are
Descended from the original founders of the settlement, Vargas Vallakovich is an entitled, narcissistic, blue-blooded noble with a bad temper, delusions of salvation, and a praise kink (but you didn’t hear that from me).
What the party knows
- Ever since Strahd’s awakening three months ago, he has instituted weekly festivals and made attendance mandatory.
- He has decreed that the Festival of the Blazing Sun will be held in the town square (Town Square) on Neyavr 7. The previous festival, which he called the Wolf’s Head Jamboree, was less than a week ago.
- He lives with his wife and two large dogs in a mansion on the south side of town.
Where we’ve seen them
-
Session 15 - Killing Izek (Neyavr 5, Midday) - Though not present, the Baron’s daily routine was exploited during the assassination plot. His cook, Tereska, prepared Izek Strazni’s lunch as usual in the mansion’s kitchen. While she was distracted by a fabricated errand (sent by “Amal,” actually Varnish Gothorn in disguise), Fig Fleetfoot (invisible via Victor Vallakovich’s Greater Invisibility spell) planted the poisoned wine bottle among Izek’s lunch provisions. The cook unknowingly included the poisoned wine in Izek’s meal delivery, which he consumed that evening at Lake Zarovich.

Session 16 - The Lady, the Witch, and the Ringmaster (Neyavr 6) - Lady Wachter arrived at the Burgomaster’s Mansion with Ernst Larnak and two cultists, carrying Izek Strazni’s frozen head in a burlap sack. She confronted the Baron and presented the head as proof that his enforcer was dead. When the Baron attempted to flee, Lady Wachter used a command spell to freeze him in place, then forced him to agree to abdicate his position as burgomaster. The following morning, Baron Vallakovich formally stepped down at a public ceremony in the Town Square, presided over by his brother-in-law Father Lucian Petrovich. After nearly 500 years of Vallakovich rule over Vallaki, power peacefully transferred to Lady Wachter.
