Overview

The Old Bonegrinder is a squat stone windmill of ill omen, situated along the Old Svalich Road between Tser Falls and Vallaki. Once known as the Durst Mill, the party actually holds a deed to this property—discovered during their harrowing escape from the Durst House. However, the windmill is currently occupied by Morgantha and her daughters, who have made it clear they have no intention of vacating.

What the party knows

  • The party possesses a deed to the windmill from the Durst Estate
  • Morgantha and her daughters currently reside there and refuse to acknowledge the party’s claim
  • Morgantha threatened to use the deed as kindling if the party cited it again
  • Morgantha gave each party member a free Dream Pastry, recommending they be enjoyed after a meal with red wine
  • Varnish had previously consumed one of Morgantha’s pastries and experienced disturbing visions of amber tombs and cosmic suffering
  • The windmill has three floors: ground floor with bone mill and kitchen, second floor with storage, third floor with bedroom
  • A copper key was hidden in the millstone’s gnarled wooden crossbeam
  • The key opened a secret compartment containing the hags’ coven contract (written on dried human skin), cheap jewelry, and a charm of mass heroism
  • The three hags are Morgantha (true name: Morgantha Stormreaver), Bella Sunbane (true name: Belladonna Sunbane), and Offalia Wormwiggle
  • The hags were holding two Barovian children captive: Fyodor and Myrtle (now rescued)

The Old Bonegrinder is the lair of a coven of night hags who use it to produce Dream Pastries—enchanted confections made from the life force of children. Morgantha and her daughters are far more dangerous than they appear.

Visits

  • Session 08 - Encountered Morgantha on the path to the windmill; received free dream pastries
  • Session 15 - Killing Izek (Neyavr 5, Morning) - Victor Vallakovich showed the party a blueprint of the Old Bonegrinder from his father’s library. The architectural drawing revealed a hidden compartment within the millstone structure where the hags’ coven contract might be stored. This intelligence proved crucial for planning their eventual confrontation with the night hag coven and retrieving Morgantha’s heartstone needed for the Ethereal Plane ritual.
  • Session 19 - The Con at Old Bonegrinder (Neyavr 7) - Executed an elaborate con operation to infiltrate the windmill and rescue the captive children. Lady Fiona Wachter assembled a rescue team including Victor Vallakovich, Ireena Kolyana, and her four cultists (Boris, Andrej, Miruna, and Ruxandra). At the windmill, the party split into two teams: Victor Vallakovich cast greater invisibility on Fig Fleetfoot and Choppy Gibbles to create an invisible infiltration team, while Varnish Gothorn and Arden Nalero posed as businessmen “Emric Cantemir” and “Radu Tyminski” of “Tyrone & Sons Holdings, LLC” to distract the hags with a lucrative proposal about expanding their dream pastry distribution network through Vistani connections. Morgantha was intrigued enough to summon her daughters Bella Sunbane and Offalia Wormwiggle downstairs, leaving the upper floors unguarded. While all three hags discussed the business opportunity, the invisible team infiltrated the building. Following Franz’s dying words (“The gnarled arm holds the key”), Fig Fleetfoot discovered a copper key hidden in the millstone’s gnarled wooden crossbeam. Choppy Gibbles used it to open a secret compartment containing the hags’ coven contract (written on dried human skin, revealing their true names: Morgantha Stormreaver, Belladonna Sunbane, and Offalia Wormwiggle), along with cheap jewelry and a charm of mass heroism. The team then rescued Fyodor and Myrtle from the third floor bedroom. Fig Fleetfoot used Varnish Gothorn’s Tale of the Runaway to teleport the children and Choppy Gibbles to safety outside, then signaled with a mighty “caw-CAW!Arden Nalero feigned receiving a catastrophic call on a fake “speaking stone” about their company being bought out by private equity, allowing the businessmen to withdraw their offer and exit. The hags remained completely unaware that their contract had been stolen and the children rescued. Lady Fiona Wachter now possesses the true names needed to create a binding circle to trap the night hags for the coming battle.
