What It Is
A weathered hunting shack located on the northern shore of Lake Zarovich, serving as the home base for Szoldar Szoldarovich and Yevgeni Krushkin, two wolf hunters who regularly work the forests west of Vallaki.
What the Party Knows
From Session 16, the party discovered:
Structure
- A simple structure with a slanted roof and a stone chimney
- Smoke can be seen rising from the chimney when the hunters are present
- The door is typically open during daylight hours
The Standing Stones
Near the shack stand seven ancient standing stones arranged in a rough circle:
- Each stone is taller than a man and covered in moss and age
- The stones radiate the same quiet, patient power felt at the Raven Shrine near the Village of Barovia
- One stone bears a carved butterfly symbol - the party has begun calling this the Butterfly Shrine
- Szoldar and Yevgeni mostly leave them alone, not knowing their origin or purpose but unwilling to anger whatever entities inspired their construction
The party left an offering of gold coins at the base of the butterfly-carved stone, following the same instinct that guided them at the Raven Shrine.
Location
- Situated on the northern shore of Lake Zarovich
- Several hours’ hike west from Vallaki
- Can be reached by traveling past Lake Zarovich itself
- Serves as a waypoint for journeys further west toward Lake Baratok
Appearance in Sessions
- Session 16 — The party stopped at the shack to hire Szoldar Szoldarovich and Yevgeni Krushkin as guides to Lake Baratok, discovering the Butterfly Shrine in the process
